SHTC bids Farewell
to Fr. Tom Polackal SDB
15 June 2015, Shillong, : 15 June was a day set
aside as a “Thanksgiving Day” for Rev. Fr. Tom Polackal sdb. There was
Eucharistic celebration at 6.15 p.m. “Love and gratitude are two important
words” said Fr. Tom during the homily.
After the Holy Eucharistic celebration, there was a short
and surprised felicitation programme in Karotemporal Memorial hall (conference
hall) put up by the brothers of SHTC. At the very outset of the programme, Fr.
V.T. Jose gave words of introduction in which he highlighted the qualities of
Fr. Tom as a teacher and confessor and gave away a memento on behalf of the
community. Br. Blasius Tete presented the address in audio visual medium. First
and second year brothers presented a group song each and the third years
presented a fusion of Sadri and Santali dance.
Fr. Varicka was given a ‘slot’ to express the sentiments of
the Mawlai Parish community and presented a Naga shawl at the end of his words
of gratitude as a sign of appreciation for the pastoral ministry which he
carried out in the parish.
Towards the end of the programme, Br. Barnes spoke few words
of appreciation towards Fr. Tom and presented two mementos; one from the
college’s side and the other on behalf of the DCT department.
Fr. Tom was a confessor to the theologians, a teacher of
ITLR students, gave course on spiritual direction to the deacons and other
classes to DCT students. He leaves the community on 1July 2015
